Norene

We got an unexpected call on Tuesday, February 5.  Grandma and Grandpa Field were at the ER.  Norene had fallen and Blaine had been unable to help her up so he had to call the ambulance.  The x-ray showed that she had a hip fracture in her left hip...well, actually a fracture in the femur right below the hip joint.  They would have to wait for swelling to go down and then perform surgery to install a rod the length of her femur to repair the fracture.  Norene wasn't sure how she had fallen, but shortly into her hospital stay she began to show signs of a stroke and they rushed to do some testing.  Results showed that she had suffered a stroke, that likely had been the cause of her fall.  It effected the left side of her body and caused extreme weakness in her limbs and the muscles of her face.  The hip surgery went well, but now the recovery from the surgery coupled with rehabilitation from the stroke was going to mean a long road to recovery and uncertainty about how much ability she would even be able to recover in her left side.  After spending the first couple of days in the hospital with her, we convinced Blaine to let us take him home to get some good rest and we took turns staying with her while he was away.
