After having several crazy, busy weeks with the dress shop and all of the spring dances, this past week was supposed to be a fairly ordinary, not very busy week so I had scheduled a few extra things.....helping Sister Cardon with apartment inspections, taking dinner to the Gibbons family.....but then Thursday morning everything changed.
I picked up one of my dresses from the cleaner that was going out to another dance the next day and it was ruined! It had lots of sequins on it and the silver finish had been stripped off by the cleaning process so now they were all just white! I estimated I would need about 50+ yards of sequins to replace them all, so I immediately started running to all the craft stores and bought up all the sequins I could find and only had about 24 yards. I went right home and started removing and replacing sequins. I figured I had all day Thursday to get as much done as I could, but I knew that wasn't enough time to do it all. So I called them and let them know what had happened so they could decide what to do. I sent them pictures and told them they could rent whatever dress they wanted for free. I stayed up late Thursday getting all of the other dresses ready since I was going to be gone all Friday morning doing inspections. Finished steaming and bagging dresses Friday afternoon then had to work in the shop. I sent Carson to the store for a few things for Gibbons dinner and gave Griffin instructions on how to start the dinner. They were huge helps! Ran the dinner to Gibbons at 6, finished in the shop at 7, got a phone call from a distraught friend that lasted until 7:30, then ran to a wedding reception before it ended at 8.
Saturday I started with a 10 mile run at 5 am with Stockton's mom. Weeded for a couple of hours, opened the shop at 10, snuck out at 1 to take Griffin to do his mowing job, had a late appointment so closed up an hour later than planned, picked up Griffin from a friends, weeded while he mowed our lawn, then sprayed for weeds. Oh, and part of the problem was Clint was out of town this whole time so I couldn't ask him for any help. Whew! It was quite a weekend! Hope we don't have a repeat this week. Haha.
One cool thing I have noticed lately is that even when things get crazy I am able to get everything done that needs to be and I have had the distinct impression that it is, at least in part, due to the fact that I am making time to serve others.
Oh, and here's how things ended with the dress..... turns out the customer were coming from Inkom, Idaho. It was a good thing I had called because the mom was just planning on coming alone to pick up the dress. The daughter came, tried on the dress, and decided she still liked it enough to wear it! I was so relieved! I did not charge them since the dress was no longer the same and I think they left happy! Wow! What a relief! I sure hope that never happens again!
